Darwin Remembers: A Play
Time: Saturdays at 2pm - January 31st, February 7th, February 14th,
February 21st, & February 28th, 2009
The Darwin Center for Science and Reason presented a one-hour dramatic performance of Darwin’s life that starred Dr. David Campbell as Darwin. The play told Darwin’s story from his voyage of the HMS Beagle to his death, discussing the discovery of the principle of evolution. A unique performance, Dr. Campbell became Darwin without a script using the “Method Acting” technique, and had been doing so for four years running, with over thirty performances and a ten-part TV series.

The Simpleton of the Unexpected Isles
Time: February 12th-14th and 19th-21st, 2009, at 8pm
Where: Rockwell Hall in Peter Mills Auditorium
Duquesne’s Red Masquers brought to life a satirical comedy by playwright George Bernard Shaw that explored the themes of eugenics, religion, and useful productivity in a modern society. The play told the story of several British subjects, together with local natives, striving to build a perfect society on an island paradise. Shaw lampoons just about every social convention from marriage to vegetarianism to war - with the Rapture thrown in for good measure!
Darwin's Nightmare
Time: February 11th, 2009, at 7 p.m.
Where: Room 105 in College Hall
This controversial documentary revealed the severe environmental and social consequences resulting from the introduction of the Nile perch to Tanzania’s Lake Victoria. Dr. Brady Porter, assistant professor of biological sciences at Duquesne, spoke on the subject. The film was presented by Duquesne University's Department of Modern Languages and Literatures as part of the second annual Human Rights Film Series, Abundance and Abuse.
